The Dangers of Hate Speech.
For years I have put up and listened to anti-gay people, and preachers speak about how unnatural homosexuality is. It has always quirked my fancy that the same tool and tools they use to defame LGBT people is the same tool that humans have unnaturally cultured and developed throughout the millennias. Do you know what I am referring to? Speech and language.
Granted we are gifted with the Fox P2 gene which grants us the wonderful ability to speak and understand language, we have taken that gene far past any preconceived notion of naturalistic tendencies. We speak now with letters and words, things that are completely absent in nature, comprised only by the human mind throughout the ages. It has become something completely unnatural from its naturalistic grunts, groans, whines, clicks, whistles, and chirps.
My goal in this essay is to explain how unnatural and dangerous speech has become throughout the ages and how it is more of a threat to the world that homosexuality was or could ever be. So lets begin…
Many religiously indoctrinated people state how homosexuality is unnatural and it’s a threat to not just society but to the world. If homosexuals are given their rights to equality under the law that terrible consequences, both biblical and political will soon befall that area or country. After much research we know these claims to be nothing more than fallacious babble from close minded bigots, who wish nothing more than to keep an unjust and unfair status quo alive. However let’s take into account that maybe there might be some truth to their far outlying ideals. Is homosexuality really that dangerous? Let’s take a look.
To understand this notion we need to investigate a few questions that underline the basis of homosexuality.
What is homosexuality? Homosexuality is when a person of a gender is sexually and emotionally attracted to parties of their same gender. THAT’S IT! That is all it is. We know from studies that they love just as equally, have just as stable relationships if not more stable ones, raise children in optimum conditions, etc.
Is homosexuality truly unnatural? No it is actually natural. We also know that homosexuality does in fact occur in nature and quite often; where animals, which normally don’t form lifelong pair bonds, due so if their orientation is homosexual , and raise young with higher survival rates than that of heterosexual animals who can only contribute one parent to raising the offspring. Now there are many things in nature that we as humans do not follow for the sake of society. Most often when I bring up the issues of naturalism in homosexuality I am met with opposition that bring up points about how murder and rape is natural, but we obstruct from it and make it illegal. However to counter those claims or open a dialog on that issue I ask them this… How does a consensual relationship and intercourse between two adult parties who are committed and love each other hurt someone, as like murder and or rape? In fact having love for another is more or less the polar opposite of murder and rape. This drags us into my next question.
Is homosexuality destructive to the individual? No, multiple case studies have proven that homosexual people and bisexual people are just as well adjusted to life as anyone else, however, due to the oppression and discrimination that gay and lesbian people face on a constant day to day basis, from society, family and friends; who don’t respect or support them fully, people tend to find self medicated purposes to dispense their grief. This could mean being mature about the situation and seeking out a doctor to talk to, or an immature response by turning to drug, alcohol, and sex to alleviate the pain. The true answer is homosexuality is not dangerous to the homosexual individual it is how people negatively treat that person that makes life for them dangerous and destructive.
Should homosexual people then change to suit their environment? No, since studies have proven that in doing so it only causes more harm to the individual and produces no positive results. This type of hiding ones true self, also known as closeting, has been the main reason why LGBT people experience higher rates of depression and suicide. It is because they feel ostracized by their loved ones and society because of who they love.
What about the sex isn’t that dangerous; the parts are not meant for such things? The answer to this question is a little uncomfortable for most, but to understand the issue must be addressed fully. The parts do in fact work well together since this question’s based mainly around the bias of male homosexuality. The rectum can stretch as much as a female’s vagina when the muscles are relaxed enough, and the residual bacteria on the Penis helps the penis fight off bacteria that reside in the rectal region of the body. So in the case of phallus meet rectum, nature has a wonderful way of protecting the organs from such normal things as intercourse, given that both parties have no sexually transmittable diseases. Now in the case of pleasure, which does come about in this conversation; you have something called the prostate, in men who prefer to be penetrated this is the pleasure source. The prostate in males is interestingly situated three and a half inches up and rest right against the rectal wall. This is peculiar since the real average of males phallus length is three and a half inches. It is very similar to the G spot in females but is much more pronounced and easy to stimulate. When stimulated enough the prostate in a male can cause an orgasm far greater than that when done only through penile stimulation. It appears that from a biological standpoint if a creature is homosexual it is perfectly suited to get pleasure out of the deal no matter which end it is on. Finally intercourse is a way of expressing love and affection, which bonds partners together in life affirming commitments.
Now that you understand more about homosexuality let’s talk about the original point in this essay, “what is more dangerous and unnatural homosexuality or speech.” We know that that homosexuality for the most part is just another variant of nature and is as harmful as too much good diet and exercise. However let us talk about the unnaturalness of speech.
Just in the English language alone there are 540,000 words, with thousands of new words created every week. We invent these words and give them meaning; we then ratify the definitions of such words on a constant basis, to keep up with the change in society. Although language has its own environment, its own culture, and its own life, it is completely superficial and invented by humans. Although genetics point to language it is not entirely guided by nature for survival as it once was when it first became part of early Homo sapiens. Today our language is constantly growing, and constantly evolving, with alarming rates. Most alarming is this old poorly written grammatical term called “hate speech.” Words like gay, homosexual, fag, dyke, and queer are being used at high rates to describe the false uncomfortable feelings people perceive are true about LGBT people.
But how dangerous can speech really be? Well from a simplistic standpoint hate speech has been used for centuries to wage religious wars, massacre innocent people out of greed and prosperity, and usurp the rights of millions of people around the world. Hate speech was used to forcefully rape native colonies of their land, lives, and rights. Hate speech was used to keep women from voting. And hate speech was used to make millions of innocent African Americans be denigrated to the point of nothingness just because of their skin color. Today hate speech is used to do the exact same thing to LGBT people.
The History of hate speech.
While there are multiple references that can quote the usurpation of rights of a minority group thanks to hate speech none is more infamous than that of Adolf Hitler and his Arian race. Using Christianity, and well planned propaganda, Hitler amassed an army of exceptionally intelligent but virulently intolerant people, against an innocent minority, the Jews and homosexuals. Although weapons were used, none were more pervasive and mind altering than the words that came from Hitler’s mouth. Within a few short years he was able to not just second class both Jews and gay people but completely dehumanize them to be seen as even less than animals. With that it only took a simple order to begin the mass slaughter of these people without even a question. But let us go back before Hitler’s time.
Back when the puritans first started colonizing in the Americas they began coming into conflict with native regions who previously inhabited the land. Instead of a rational approach to try to negotiate with the natives and learn their language, many found comfort in the passages of their bible which called such people satanic and a threat unto god. It wasn’t hard for leaders of the puritans to then amass hunting parties to seek out and massacre Natives for in doing so would be only to the benefit of not only the puritans but to their ideologies. Fast forward a bit and then the tides turn to witches.
Witches, or non-conformist, non-subservient females, were called out and executed for none other than suspicion and false testimony. The crimes against them were not only infanticidal but completely imaginary at best, however the belief of those words were used to validate the brutal torture and execution of such persons.
These actions taken were done by nothing more than a few words and a circular belief system that played off the minds of people, which backed it up. Unfortunately today these usurpations still happen. In the last 40 years we have seen a minority group of oppressed people, now turn into and join the larger group of the oppressors against innocent gay and lesbian people who what nothing more than respect and dignity for the love they share with one another.
The unnaturalness of speech.
During times with forms of language were used as a survival tactic it served its purpose well for the Homo sapient species; however since then it has be used, as explained in the previous portion of this essay to cause massive damage on a global scale. Certainly nature destroys itself as we have seen time and time again, but never before has one small facet of a single species led to the destruction of life more profoundly than speech has. Words take on a completely powerful meaning. Words like love and hate hold emotional ties that can never be broken. They are jus word conjured up by the human imagination to describe and rationalize something. Nature doesn’t try to describe something or rationalize it I just does it. Things happen at the drop of a leaf, a random coincidence, where humans inextricably try to unravel the mystery of why and how this happens, we have developed an unnatural way to do so and that is speech and language. In the process of doing so we have given credence to things that are quite complex with only a few simple letters. As stated words like Love and Hate are just a few things that are quite complex. So let’s talk about How dangerous Hate speech can be.
The dangers of Hate speech verses that of Homosexuality.
As stated in my opening I talked about the hate speech that revolves around the fallacious argument that homosexuality will inevitably cause damage to the world; however we discussed the dangers of male on male intercourse in my questioning answering portion of this paper and found it to be no more dangerous to the individuals as heterosexual intercourse. We also noted that this type interaction is only beneficial in affirming love between two people. As stated it is no more as dangerous as too much good diet and exercise. But as we have seen with hate speech, the exact opposite is true. People are slaughtered all because of hate speech, all because they believe in what someone tells them without a rational thought of humility or decency.
Religious bigotry also known as hate speech is still rampant in the world. The Middle East not only criminalizes same sex relationships, it is punishable by death, all in the name of fundamentalist Ideologies. In the United States, distorted facts, misinformation, and lies were used to sway the voters to take away the fundamental rights of LGBT people to marry and have their marriages recognized by society to their committed partner of many years. Because of many anti-gay hate preachers out there many LGBT people, as explained earlier, are far more likely to be depressed, suicidal, and murdered because of their sexual orientation. However this in of itself has become a vicious circle.
With credit to Jon Corvino, PhD of philosophy, he calls this the argument of the bully. The bully attacks another child on the playground the child falls down and cries. The teacher goes up to the bully and asks why he hit the child. The bully replies “it is because he is crying, and if he doesn’t stop I will hit him again.” This is a circular excuse by hate mongers. Their hate causes an effect and therefore their reaction to the effect gives them justification in proceeding with hateful measures. Basically they don’t like the effect they cause so they then respond more negatively to that effect and use it to support their arguments. This is circularity at work and used often by religious fundamentalist in order to validate their outlandish claims. Basically anti-gay hate speech is the reason why many LGBT people loath themselves and the world around them and find ways to self medicate to alleviate the pain of oppression. Because of this alleviation the oppressive side then uses it to support their claims about how immoral, evil, sinful, etc, gay and lesbian people are; when in fact it is the speakers of hate that are the ones who truly express evil, immorality and other connotations of negative things.
Even worse this type of poisonous hate has filtered so far down into the roots of society that even parents of lesbian and gay children refuse to recognize their sons and daughters relationships to full aspiration as they would to heterosexual relationships. This too causes undo damage to the mentality of their sons and daughters because it makes them feel that their relationships are insufficient to that of their parents; which in most cases is not true, but just the opposite. Still, dealing with this situation myself I find it very degrading when my father is too cowardly to call my relationship with my fiancé just that. Instead he quotes my fiancé Ruben as my “friend” with the parenthesis emphasized when he tries to correct me on my relationship or when he tries to explain it to his friends. It is far beyond aggravating it is downright insulting. All of this because of the intrinsic absolutes that hate speech has done to our society when concerning people of a different sexual orientation.
Closing arguments.
Homosexual intercourse is sex between two consenting adults either out of love and fulfillment or simply primal urges. Either way it is far from dangerous to society or the world. Hate speech is negative propaganda that creates a very destructive atmosphere to society and the world, causing massive groups of mislead people to oppress any chosen group of people based on false assumptions, stereotypes, and outright lies. This then can escalate to murderous intolerance on a global scale to innocent people that do no harm to anyone, not even themselves, but love with a full heart’s content. In the case of the dangerous of homosexuality verses hate speech it is blatantly obvious that hate speech is far more dangerous than homosexuality and we must fight to combat it at every turn we can. Parents must stand up for their children, and although difficult, embrace that part of them that makes them love their partner and consider it to be as normal and loving as their perceived notions of a relationship are.
I have listened to the other side, seen their emotions, they are not positive but virulently negative, although sometimes not hostile, their actions and oppression most certainly are. Hate speech is a danger to everyone not just gays and lesbians. Once they lose the battle with us they will most certainly find another scapegoat to speak against. We cannot allow this to happen and must educate other on the dangers of hate speech before it is too late. And always remember that hatred doesn’t always come in the form of outright violence, and hostility, but in soft spoken words from a soft spoken man.
