This is a short-short I wrote in college, for an assignment. It was originally published in the U.S.C. online lit magazine, Angelingo. The idea of the short-short is to squeeze an entire story into just a few hundred words....
Is There Life on Mars?
You’re standing there awkwardly in your new red dress and matching lipstick, hair plastered to your head like a 1950s movie star (there isn’t much you can do with short hair). You are hiding behind a red velvet curtain, the only thing sepa… Continue
I admit it. I’m downright queer.
So thanks for including Alan Cummings' short, it's-about-time piece on gay icons in your April 13th edition. Mr. Cummings' article, Judy, Barbra, Liza—And Little Edie: How the 'Grey' ladies, and their ilk, became the gays’ ladies, is amazingly aligned with the underlying message of Aberration Nation. His concluding statement hit the proverbial nail on the head:
“I would like to replace the word gay with queer when talking in broad terms about our collective exp… Continue

My fellow LGBT and supporter friends I urge you to read this letter and adapt it to our cause to fight against injustice and hatred. We, like King, must follow in his footsteps. We don't have to prescribe ourselves to a religion like King, but we can find solace in ourselves, our loved ones, and those who accept us. Please take in Kings prodigious words, and continue to keep the torch of justice and equality burning bright. Never lose hope, never hesitate to strengthen the motivation and movemen… Continue

The Dangers of Hate Speech.
For years I have put up and listened to anti-gay people, and preachers speak about how unnatural homosexuality is. It has always quirked my fancy that the same tool and tools they use to defame LGBT people is the same tool that humans have unnaturally cultured and developed throughout the millennias. Do you know what I am referring to? Speech and language.
Granted we are gifted with the Fox P2 gene which grants us the wonderful ability to speak and understand langua… Continue

My partner and I spent Easter in Iceland and we found Reykjavik to be an overtly gay-friendly city, with many merchants actually advertising that fact with rainbow flag stickers placed right next to the logos of the credit cards accepted at their establishments.

Living in the UK is great. I mean sure, it rains a lot, the food is rubbish and it's horrendously expensive but what I want to point at is that we have so many rights here and freedom we take for granted. I was shocked when I went to China three years ago and found out that there are hotels (mostly low-budget) that are legally not allowed to accommodate foreigners. I felt discriminated but I (or better my wallet) was happily welcomed in millions of other places. Still I started to realise what d… Continue
Most of you know that I took a stongly-voiced position on the Israeli side during the last months of the media war thagt was fought between Gaza and Israel-sympathisers.
Putting that aside, I now want to put a 'pink' spotlight onto Israel and highlight some astonishing facts about a country wedged in between Arab nations.
Most are probably aware that queer boys and girls in Iraq, Syria, Egypt or Iran don't live a very "gay" life. In fact, homosexuality is even forbidden in every Middle Eastern… Continue

or: An open letter to the ones fighting for marriage equality
The gay movies I saw as a teenager at my first Gay Film Festival in Hamburg around 5 years ago were all about one topic: sex. If it's about first sexual experiences, sexual relationships or the gay clubbing world with lots of random encounters (think Queer as Folk).
My university (the School of African and Oriental Studies, London) recently hosted a lecture about the rising gay culture in Bangkok and all the gay-themed Thai movies th… Continue

In response to NOM's campaign launch of 2 Million for Marriage I have purchased the 2M4M.biz website. Only because I was beaten by another gay rights group in purchasing the 2m4m.com and 2m4m.net domains. Beat me by seconds for the .net domain. lol
I have now pointed the 2m4m.biz domain to my Youth Rights Campaign blog because I think most believe this is an adult choice fight and have forgotten about all the gay youth that are being bullied, beaten and killed. It's not a subject the supporters… Continue
Don't know if anyone reads my blog so thought I would re-post this here also:
The problem in a nutshell. There are two types of wedding ceremonies; religious and civil. With religious ceremonies there a lots of religious reasons why a religious institution will deny a wedding ceremony. Interfaith, impotence, not a church member, divorced, are a few. We all agree that when a religious wedding ceremony is denied that those denied can usually have a civil wedding ceremony.
That's why secular stra… Continue

I am a cynic, because I am an idealist. At first this proposition seems contradictory. However, when one has ideals of equality, liberty, rationality, and innovation; even cursory observation of our petty, prejudicial, and perniciously pious species will leave one inclined to be cynical. In my rather short life so far, I have seen our nation driven by jingoism and fear, seen good people duped into absurdities by superstitious dogma, watched liberties complacently ceded to state power, and encoun… Continue

Here's a UK story that lines up nicely with an earlier post I did about NY. As a result of a law enacted last fall (you can read a few comments about the legislative debate here) lesbian couples will now have several new paths to joint parenthood in the UK. Though the headline here is about birth certific… Continue

Dear Reader,
This is a story of the internal loathing I once harbored towards myself for being gay, and what I did to try to overcome my homosexuality. In the end I committed suicide and died for two minutes. My suicide, or attempt, to be literal, caused severe nerve damage to my right arm; the physical damage is nothing compared to the mental damage that still haunts me to this day.
Writing my story was not an easy task, but an extensively painful one. I do not over exaggerate my mistreatment… Continue
The Swedish parliament, by an overwhelming majority, has finally reached the conclusion that it’s silly to have two differently-named-but-otherwise-identical legal arrangements for couples who want to form a family.
Starting May 1st, full civil marriage will be an option for same-sex couples, who have been able to enter “civil partnerships” in Sweden since 1995.… Continue

Greetings, all!
I wanted to post some information on a project I'm associated with. As a member of the Board of Directors for Beyondmedia Education (www.beyondmedia.org), I thought you might like to know about a sex positive program the organization is working on in partnership with Howard Brown Health Center and About Face Theatre.
The program, Condom Sense: A Real Life Education, brings sex positive education into hi… Continue
